Clara Zetkin came up with the idea of making the day international. In 1910, she proposed the concept at a Copenhagen International Conference of Working Women.<\/p>\n
In 1911, Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland became the first countries to celebrate International Women’s Day.<\/p>\n
When the United Nations began celebrating the day in 1975, it became official.<\/p>\n
